Sample exotic peppers from around the world. The collection includes 10 test tubes, each filled with 2 fluid ounces of pepper.  While only three types of pepper (black, white, and green) are considered true pepper, there are other members of the same genus as well as completely unrelated plants that have also been called pepper. Long and Cubeb peppers are closely related to true pepper while Szechuan pepper is actually a citrus fruit. Early Spanish explorers in the Caribbean thought they had found a new source of black pepper (a very expensive spice at the time) and called it Pimenta. The English had a different name for the tree: Allspice, because it tastes like many spices blended together. If you're interested in more stories of the scandalous and bloody history of the spice trade, visit my Pinterest board at

The test tube racks were inspired by a custom order request and are hand made in our workshop from laminated strips of alternating hardwoods.
